Meet Lucy

Welcome to Polybonkers, and thank you for visiting my website.

Polybonkers was born out of a love for my polymer clay hobby. I discovered polymer clay at the end of 2018 whilst looking for a creative hobby to counterbalance a stressful job, and that didn’t take up too much space. I was watching Kirstie’s handmade Christmas where someone had made polymer clay Christmas decorations and had an “ooo…” moment and thought I’d like to have a go at that. I have spent the last 18 months exploring, experimenting and learning from tutorials and workshops by fantastic, talented polymer clay artists - Melanie Muir, Bettina Welker, Cara Jane Hayman, Ginger Davis Allman, Tina Mezek and Dan Cormier, as well as numerous you tube videos. I have taken inspiration from all of them and really enjoyed the way polymer clay can magically morph into wonderful and diverse creations.

My neatly contained hobby has also morphed into a bit of a wild monster, and I have to admit I have a polymer clay habit. Forever moving my clay storage boxes which seem to grow by the day, constantly searching for cutter I was using only moments earlier, obsessively cleaning my trusty pasta machine to make sure my white clay stays white and my husband’s favourite, endlessly scraping up little bits of colourful clay from the floor. Hence the name Polybonkers – which my husband coined whenever I go off to play with my polymer clay. Most recently I have really started to look at colour and how they work together – this has been really such an interesting exploration and this particular journey started with the book Polymer Clay Color Inspirations by Lindy Haunani and Maggie Maggio.

Now I am ready to share my polybonkers journey with you. I love making jewellery and accessories, I love trying different techniques especially Mokume gane which is a technique inspired by the Japanese metalworking procedure which produces a mixed-metal laminate with distinctive layered patterns. Please visit my Esty Store to explore my latest collection.

If you like something you see but the colours are not your favourites let me know as I love exploring different colour palettes and I can make a bespoke piece just for you.

Thank you

Lucy
